A Spiritual Therapeutic Approach

As spiritual beings living a human existence, we all will experience life’s joys and challenges. Through spiritual regression research we have learnt that the human life is a difficult challenge that brave souls choose to experience to help their soul develop. Human life is difficult due to how physical life is and the particular emotional aspects to it. However, because of this, the human experience can lead to accelerated soul development. Consider the emotion of sadness and watching a film where someone is crying and we know that they could be crying because they are sad or happy. If you had not experienced either emotions yourself, there would be little meaning to this image or understanding of the differences between sadness and happiness. Through experiencing sadness we learn how this feels, how it can come about, how it can impact on ourselves and others, the strength it can take to overcome it with or without the support of others. Now consider the emotion of happiness, how do we know what happiness is and know to appreciate it, without having also experienced sadness. It is through experiences and our reflections about these that can lead to different actions. Research suggests that when in the spirit realms our soul self is our true self without the attitude, judgements and personality that go with the human experience and our soul self is one that is full of love and connected to all. For a soul then, without the human experience, understanding emotions would be akin to watching the movie of someone crying. Consequently the soul would be able to derive little meaning or understanding from this and would be limited in its development. Therefore, it is through this process of experience we learn and develop as human beings in life and it is through spirit realm guidance and reflection that our soul develops on our soul journey.

I have over 15 years of experience working in a broad range of settings supporting clients (children to adults) with their emotional health and well-being. I have worked with clients who might have a range of medical diagnoses often being experienced as difficulties with integrating emotional experiences. My experience has involved working with a variety of presenting behavioural issues (such as self-harm, suicidal thoughts, avoidance behaviours) and difficult life experiences (childhood/adult trauma, relationship difficulties).

I take a client-centred approach where I focus on the individual’s strengths and in my private practice this is underpinned by a spiritual theoretical perspective which has the following positive aspects to it:

  • It can help give the client understanding as to why they have faced particular life challenges.
  • It can help the client to nurture hope about their future because as soul lessons are learnt, the lessons are often not repeated and if they are, the client now has the means to more effectively manage them.
  • The client gains an understanding of their own choice in their lessons and choice of how they go about living their life.
  • Clients who have experienced trauma can move from a position of feeling they are a victim to understanding this from a different perspective which can support them to feel empowered in their lives.

I utilise a range of techniques I have developed over the years to support the client in managing their emotions and life challenges and work with clients to identify the approach they would like to be used in the counselling. Approaches offered include the following:
